CJ Grisham featured in 4 Military Times Publications

As many of you know, I have been a co-author on “A Soldier’s Perspective” for a couple of years now. I have a great respect for CJ, Marcus and everyone there. Those of you that have been following the blog lately know of CJ’s fight with the Huntsville Schools PTA and the Army. Today all four Military Times Publications (Army Times, Air Force Times, Marine Times, Navy Times) dedicated their lead story in the “Off Duty” section to CJ and the injustice has he has suffered.

cj-armytimesTroy, a good friend of the blog, has posted the full article along with pictures to his Bouhammer blog. Please go read the article.

While you are in the mood for reading also check out what Marcus has to say in his own post “Sir, Let Me Tell Our Story” on “A Soldier’s Perspective”.

I certainly understand and sympathize with the Sgt, but we all give up of lot of rights when we put on a uniform. I’m not sure the right to blog is one guaranteed to those in the military.

As for his criticism of the the Commander in Chief–during Vietnam, I had to leave my politics at home. I guess we have a new Army these days. It’s a measure of how great this country is that a soldier can get away with such criticism. In some countries, the Sgt would be hanged for stating his opinions. Here he has to endure criticism. The truth of the matter is that when military people hold strong contrary opinions, their opinions may affect their careers. If I remember correctly, several Generals lost their jobs when they disagreed with President Bush. We have free speech but we often have to pay a price for using it.

You are so right, some times when we voice our opposition to something or someone it can come back to bite us on the ass. So much has changed in the military since you served and I am sure that in the next 40 years, it will change again.

We live in a country that allows freedom of speech and I am very grateful for that. If this was some of the other countries around the world we would be shot for speaking out against our government leaders.

I just amazes me that this has turned into the big ordeal that it has. Some times adults act more like children than the kid do. And the prejudice against those that protect our freedoms simply astounds me.

In an open letter on Facebook Ms Scott made this comment:

“This has moved beyond a uniform issue, this had became a personal vendetta between everyone. Mr. Grisham felt as if his Constitutional rights were violated. I ask you the question call me a liberal or tratior to our country if you must, but how many others rights were violated during interogations? How many of them were innocent? I am not ignorant to what goes on during war by any means. I know first hand how they rape and toture their male captives, I’ve seen the physical wounds that many civilians would not believe.”

How does this have anything to do with the school and the issue of uniforms?
