Jason’s Law Petition

I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition that I recently signed:

“Jason’s Law”

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/jhlrivenburg?e

Jason Rivenburg (35) was shot and killed in his truck in South Carolina on March 5,2009 in an abandoned gas station that was frequently used as a rest area. From our tragic loss we are hoping to create and pass “Jason’s Law.” The purpose of Jason’s Law is to provide secure areas along our nation’s highways for truck drivers to rest
and/or wait to unload their trucks. Please help us to bring this issue to the attention of our legislators so that we may save another family from enduring such pain. Jason leaves behind his son,(2) his wife, and soon to be delivered twins.

We the undersigned, are requesting that the U.S. Government enact legislation that will protect truck drivers within the United States. We are requesting that truck stops be required to have adequate lighting and cameras and businesses be required to provide a secure common area for them to wait to unload.

What ever we need to do to make safe and secure stops for all truck drivers needs to happen now!!!!! Not later, my husband is a truck driver and he was telling me that Cali. is wanting to shut down 22 rest stops because they do not want to do the maintence on them. Well is not the life of a truck driver important???? To alot of people they think that truck drivers are ignorant when they drive, but I beg to differ I have been with my husband over the road and the amounts of people that just randomly cut us off and then they think that you can just stop on a dime is a joke!!!!! If it were not for truck drivers there would not be any supplies for stores, or releif efforts for the people in the 9-11 attack…….we need to treat these driver’s better and their lives need to be the main focus!!!!! Let’s start by providing the safe areas, for our husbands, wifes and ect… it needs to happen today and not tomorrow.

Safe parking has been an issue for many years. I have been driving for about 18 years now and can remember many stories of driver being killed in rest stops and truck stop parking lots. When you get away from those the risk goes up because those areas usually don’t have many people around. I hope this petition will help all of us out here.

I hate hearing that a state is closing a rest are or parking area. There is not enough parking in some areas of the US now for big trucks. If they close these rest ares, then they are forcing drivers to park in other places that may be even less safe. As a woman out here I have been mugged 3 times in my 18 years of driving. Each time I was very lucky that they didn’t want more than my money and that I walked away.

It is time to do something about this!

My son is a truck driver and I pray everyday that he is safe out there on the open road. He calls me and tells me about how hard it is to find a place to park his truck and get the rest the law requires, so I believe that all drivers, not just truck drivers, have a safe place to stop for several hours to get the rest they need so they do not cause an accident due to lack of sleep. Please see that this law is put into effect as soon as possible.

My husband is a truck driver and I pray that he is kept safe everyday he is not with his 3 sons and me. I would like to see this law go into effect so that I can feel safer when he is not home with us.

I am in full support of Jason’s Law as i am a truck driver myself. I would like for Jason’s family to know i am from the area where he was killed and it is a very good area where things like this just don’t happen, but we know it did on this day by 3 thugs that have no regard for human life. The majority of the people in this community are just down to earth folks with excellent morals and life values. These thugs have tarnished that reputation greatly. MY sincere regrets go out to everyone that will suffer from his tragic-senseless murder.

My husband is also a driver. He has been given awards for his safe driving. He tells of the discourteous “car” drivers; the cut offs, the texting, even preparing drugs at red lights, only to drive off using. He always looks out for others, helps the needy (the real ones) when he runs into them at his various stops around the country. He has never had a traffic violation in his life of any kind in his rig or his personal vehicle. My husband is a precious man who loves God and his family. He works so hard for us while getting an excellent job done for his customers. He has caused me to know there are some good, wonderful people, men and women, out there working hard for their families and this country. The majority are not anything close to the stereotype. Our drivers deserve clean, safe places to rest.

  7. I’m sorry for your loss and i’m a truckdriver as well and i really support what u r doing in lite of the fact that your loss will bring a positivechange to this industry and may god comfort u and give u strength and thanks

  8. It is absolutely clear that almost all laws as well as almost everything created by human being is far from being perfect. We write books, shoot films, try to jump over our own heads and what’s the result? We are ruining our planet and ourselves together with it. In cinnection with this I recommend watching the film Secret (find it at http://www.rapidsharemix.com )and learn what else good people can do
